WHAT IS IT ABOUT

Four key themes are particularly important for foresight activities

  • How can foresight methods be more robust?
  • How can we spot threats and opportunities early?
  • How can we make best use of different forecasting and modelling techniques?
  • How do researchers, decision makers and the public learn from each other about the possibilities for the future?

WHO IS IT FOR

The subject is about better ways to explore the future. Papers and workshops are being presented by researchers and reflective practitioners. In particular they explore the participatory aspects of modern foresight and make links between methodology, practice and policy.

The knowledge and networks will be valuable for:

  • Researchers
  • Educators
  • Consultants
  • Policy makers
  • Strategic Managers

The areas of application are diverse. Case studies will include:

  • Sustainable development
  • Natural environment
  • Humanities
  • Social change
  • Business and organizational strategy
  • Globalisation
  • Political structures
  • Regional development
  • Science and technology policy
  • Health and medicine
  • Infrastructure and transportation

WHAT WILL HAPPEN

This will be a relatively informal event with about a hundred people. There will be presentations, discussions, socialising, networking and workshops.

The work of the project "COSTA-22" will be featured along with invited contributions on the key themes

A 'futures literacy' workshop will be offered to help people become familiarised with approaches to foresight
